It was a success right from the start, but we quickly learned from the families we served that there were even more needs to address.
Since then, we have expanded significantly, in both the programs we offer and the space we need. We introduced a range of new, evidence-based services, including support for teen parents, a postpartum depression prevention program, parenting resources, and long-term mental health services. In May 2024, with the support of a $1 million grant from the State of Colorado, we reached an exciting milestone—purchasing our own building at 191 Yuma St.
This new space provides Thriving Families with financial stability and ensures our long-term presence in the Denver community. More importantly, it enables us to better serve the families who rely on us every day. We’re excited for the future and the continued impact we can make together in the lives of families throughout our community.
Located in Denver’s Valverde neighborhood, 191 Yuma St. offers 20,000 sq. ft. for office, workshop, conference, childcare, kitchen, and baby-gear store space as well as parking for more than 60 vehicles. It allows Thriving Families to offer all programs in person again, host large events, and better support staff, interns, and volunteers.
Two 1,200 sf workshop rooms, each offering space for at least 25 mothers and their babies, allow for flexibility to schedule multiple classes at once, serving more families. We run more than 200 MotherWise workshops every year.
Onsite childcare allows clients to bring their children with them, providing a safe and nurturing space while parents are in workshops or receiving case management or therapy services. The childcare rooms will include built-in play structures, a nap/quiet room, a library, and ample healthy snacks.
Additional support is provided by a culturally-affirming food pantry with refrigeration and a baby boutique where families will find free car seats, portable cribs, diapers, baby and maternity clothes, oral health kits, and children’s books.
We provide meals for our clients and their children at each workshop. We serve 100 to 200 meals a week and with a comprehensive kitchen, we will be able to prepare food (and more of it) onsite and reduce food costs.
Significantly expanded mental health services will be available to pregnant and postpartum people, teen parents, and children, couples, and families. These rooms will be confidential, trauma-informed spaces for evidence-based best practices in mental health.
